A list of convergences on the Cyprus problem has been given to the so called ‘deputy prime minister’ Serdar Denktas by Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, media in the occupied areas reported on Tuesday.
Denktas has said that he has a positive outlook on the upcoming conference in Geneva, after receiving the list.
On the security and guarantees issue, Denktas has said that he has only received the Greek Cypriot position on the matter, and that the Turkish Cypriot side’s position on the issue was not included in the list he received.
He added that after the meeting of the Turkish Cypriot Democratic Party on December 24, an evaluation of the list will be presented.
Denktas said that at first he was not willing to go to Geneva with other Turkish Cypriot parties, but after receiving the information he feels that he could go.
Akinci told Al-Jazeera that the security issue of the Cyprus problem could be re-evaluated 15 years after a solution.
Serdar Denktas is the only surviving son of former Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktas, who played a key role in the unilateral declaration of independence for the so called ‘TRNC’ in 1983.
After the Annan plan for a Cyprus settlement was proposed in 2004, Rauf Denktas opposed the agreement as did former President Tassos Papadopoulos.
