The Greek foreign ministry confirmed on Thursday that Greece’s Ambassador to Brazil, Kyriakos Amiridis, has been missing since Monday.
In a press release, the ministry said embassy in Brasilia was informed on Wednesday from the ambassador’s family that they had not been able to contact Amiridis since Monday, when he visited Rio for the Christmas holidays.
“Following the immediate actions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs it requested the full mobilization of all the authorities in Brazil, which began an investigation to gather more information on the case,” the ministry said.
“The ministry and the Greek embassy in Brasilia are monitoring closely the case and shall, in close cooperation with the Brazilian authorities, proceed with all the necessary actions,” it added.
