A possible break-down of the ongoing talks between the Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot leaders on the future of the island will be solely due to Turkey, Cyprus’ Greens leader Georgios Perdikis told journalists after his meeting with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias in Athens on Thursday.
“We had the opportunity to inform [the PM and FM] fully about many aspects of the Cyprus issue, not only the international aspect, in which Greece is involved. We had the opportunity to express the concerns of the Cypriot people on many issues that concern the viability of the solution to the Cyprus issue,” he said.
He applauded Tsipras’ view that Greece is interested in a viable and fair solution for Cyprus. “Greece correctly insists on abolishing the anachronistic institution of guarantees and the withdrawal of foreign troops from Cyprus as an important element that will which ensure and enhance the viability of the solution to the Cypriot problem,” he added.
