Athens was unanimously approved to participate in the International Contact Group for Libya playing an important role in the stabilisation of the wider region of the Mediterranean.
The Group, which is under the authority of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign policy, Federica Mogherini, consists of Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Hollande and the presiding country of the EU Council and it is a critical forum for the EU policy on Libya.
Athens seeks to act as a bridge for closer EU-Libya relations, while also looking to expand cooperation with Tripoli by implementing programmes that cover a wide range of issues.
