Cyprus issue negotiators meet to prepare for next leaders' discussion

Negotiators Andreas Mavroyiannis and Ozdil Nami met on Monday to prepare the discussion between Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci who will meet on Wednesday.

According to sources, the negotiators did not discuss the substance of the issues under negotiation.

Meanwhile, the UN Secretary General`s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide is set to hold separate meetings with Anastasiades and Akinci on Tuesday.

In statements to the press after his meeting with Akinci last week, Anastasiades said the leaders had decided to meet on February 1 to agree on the procedure and the methodology to be followed at the talks.

“It was decided to continue the dialogue in Cyprus, on all subjects, with the determination to work in order to narrow existing differences or if possible conclude on the majority of the subjects,” Anastasiades added.
