The United Nations has “stolen” 50 years from the Turkish Cypriots in efforts to solve the Cyprus problem, so called ‘foreign minister’ Tahsin Ertugruloglu told the so called ‘TRNC assembly’ on Tuesday evening.
Ertugrulogu also criticised the negotiating process in Cyprus saying the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot side have fundamentally different perspectives on a solution to the problem, an announcement from the so called ‘ministry’ said.
He added that one of the different views is that the Greek Cypriot side considers the Cyprus problem as an issue of occupation.
CONTINUING NEGOTIATIONS
The so called ‘minister’ clarified that he has not seen any progress the last 49 years that the negotiations have been continuing.
On talks in Geneva and the five-party conference held on January 12, Ertugruloglu said that conference ended without a conclusion, due to the position of Greece and the Greek Cypriot side’ position that negotiations are an open-ended process.
Regarding discussions on the territory issue, the so called ‘minister’ said the Greek Cypriot side is unaware that fact that attempts are being made to return 7 per cent of the territory.
G/Cs UNWILLING TO COMPROMISE
Ertugruloglu has said that the Greek Cypriots are unwilling to compromise at the negotiating table.
He also criticised the community’s leader, Mustafa Akinci, for the attitude he is maintaining during negotiations.
