Report: Change of German stance towards Greek bailout

The German governing coalition changes its position regarding Greece’s bailout, reads the headline of the newspaper “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, which speaks of an underlying swift of Berlin as to IMF’s participation in Greece’s bailout program.

“Within the German government, there is clearly an increasing disposition for a significant swift regarding Greece’s bailout policy”, reads the newspaper article based on the statements of Manfred Weber, leader of the European People’s Party (EPP) in the European Parliament and Vice-President of the CSU party. “Europe and Germany should stop insisting on the IMF participating in Greece’s bailout program. Given that the IMF insists on a ‘haircut’, then we should let the Fund withdraw”, said Mr. Weber.

As to the Greek issue and the new debate on Grexit, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel stated in an interview with the newspaper “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”: “A constant dispute over Greece’s exit from the Eurozone is the last thing we need now”.
