Greek PM raises Turkish aggression issue at European Union Summit

Greek PM Alexis Tsipras raised the matter of Turkey’s increasing aggression in the Aegean Sea at the EU Summit meeting in Brussels. During his speech to the EU26 leaders Mr. Tsipras said the Greece aimed to continue defending its sovereignty while maintaining an open channel of communication with Turkey. He stressed that the constant aggression was undermining the necessary trust between the two countries to move forward.

The Greek PM also commented on the refugee crisis and the full implementation of the EU-Turkish agreement, expressing his disappointment about the delay in the setting up of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) and the incomplete implementation of the refugee relocation plan. The Greek PM affirmed his support for the expansion of the EU into the western Balkans, noting that Greece expected the neighbouring countries to respect the principles of neighbourly relations and international law.
