Following the message of unity sent from Rome by the heads of the 27 EU member states and the support to Greece’s stance on labor issues, as a result of the initiatives of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, the Greek government considers the Declaration of Rome to be a positive outcome.
As stressed by government circles, the disagreement in the negotiations for the conclusion of the second review led the Greek PM to demonstrate the importance of the European social acquis. As a result, the Declaration that was signed makes indeed reference to social Europe. Same government circles also point out that the supportive declarations by European leaders corroborated their determination to maintain social acquis as a European priority for the next decade, especially with respect to protection of labor relations.
