EU: 4-week deadline to “reluctant” states to cooperate on refugee relocation

The European Commission has given a four-week deadline to “reluctant” member states to cooperate on the issue of refugee relocation and even threatened with sanctions, EU Commissioner for Migration, Citizenship and Home Affairs Dimitris Avramopoulos said on Wednesday in the European Parliament, according to Deutsche Welle.

Relocation from Greece and Italy began in the autumn of 2015 with the aim of transferring 60,000 refugees from Greece to other European countries in two years. Only 12,000 have departed so far. Another 12,400 people could have been relocated if they complied with the agreement.
