The new administration of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) and its President Yiannis Retsos met with the leader of Greece’s main opposition New Democracy party Kyriakos Mitsotakis to discuss the course of the tourist season, the key issues of the sector and the updated strategy of SETE.
The meeting was attended by the presidents of the 14 Panhellenic members of SETE, the New Democracy head of Culture and Sports Ms. Olga Kefalogianni and Greek main opposition New Democracy Tourism Sector head Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas.
SETE’s President presented the Greek tourism body’s main goals which include achieving an improved ranking for Greece as a world destination, ensuring coordination and a single voice within the sector, working towards mutually beneficial relationship with respective governments, and enhancing the sector’s socio-economic impact.
Particular emphasis was placed on linking tourism to the agri-food sector and the cultural heritage, as well as its positive impact on the economy and employment.
New Democracy President Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed the need to establish a healthy entrepreneurial environment, the promotion of competition, reduced government intervention and less bureaucracy. “We believe”, he noted “in the interconnection of tourism and culture. Culture is the vast untapped comparative advantage of the country that allows us to expand the tourist season to 12 months a year.”
