Greek main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday began a two-day tour of Lakonia in the Peloponnese.
In a statement, ND’s leader slammed the “unacceptable government interventions and attacks on justice, which deeply injure democracy in our country.” These showed that the SYRIZA-ANEL government had “exceeded all limits with its arrogance and authoritarianism,” he added.
“They offer alibis to blind violence. At the same time, the sordid incidents that happened yesterday once again prove that the citizen protection minister in incapable of doing his job,” Mitsotakis noted, referring to a rampage by anti-authoritarian protestors on Ermou Street in Athens.
“I express my outrage over the destruction on Ermou Street…I call on all democratic citizens to stand against the institutional downhill slide to which the government is pushing the country.”
Mitsotakis had a series of meetings in Sparti, including a meeting with the Metropolitan of Monemvasia and Sparti Efstathios, before making his way to Areopolis and visiting the Dirou Caves.
After visiting villages in the recently fire-stricken areas, he will take part in a meeting of Lakonia prefecture organisations in Gythio and then visit Neapolis late on Tuesday evening.
On Wednesday, Mitsotakis is scheduled to visit Molaous city and a traditional and organic goods workshop in Glykovrisi, a juice packager in Amykles and a fish farm in Kastorio, as well as the Mystra archaeological site.
