Greek main opposition leader and Chinese ambassador meet ahead of 82nd TIF

Greek Main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday met with the Chinese Ambassador in Athens Zou Xiaoli, as part of the ND president’s preparation for the 82nd Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) in September, where China will be the country of honour.

According to sources, the meeting reaffirmed their mutual interest in further reinforcing strategic cooperation between Greece and China, which was first stared under an ND government.

They also exchanged views on the prospects for bilateral cooperation, with emphasis on energy, shipping, tourism, culture and foods. Among others, they hailed the imminent launch of a direct flight between Athens and Beijing as an important development.

Referring to the Chinese ambassador’s recent visit to the northern Greek town of Soufli, traditionally noted for the production of silk, they discussed the prospects of launching mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in the silk industry.

Zou Xiaoli briefed Mitsotakis on the course of Chinese investments across Greece and China’s presence at TIF, while they also held talks on the latest developments in the Korean peninsula.
