The European Commission welcomed the speech of French President Emmanuel Macron in Athens on Thursday night, particularly those concerning his vision for the future of Europe, spokesman Margaritis Schinas noted on Friday.
“We welcome the dynamic intervention of the French President Emmanuel Macron on the hill of Pnyx in Athens,” he mentioned, adding it was the Commission that started the debate on the future of Europe.
Schinas stressed that what the Commission wanted and achieved, was for the debate on the future of the European Union to be open to dialog in all the European countries and not an issue for Commissioners or the “European bubble”.
“We are following all the debates on the future of the EU and we welcome them, because that is precisely what we want to see: To step up the debate on the future of Europe,” he added.
