Greek Parliament President announces plans for Democracy Museum

Greece’s parliament plenum on Friday honoured World Day of Democracy and in parallel the Day of National Memory of the Asia Minor Catastrophe.

Parliament President Nikos Voutsis announced the founding of a Museum of Democracy, stressing that “in the following days the parliament presidency will take the initiative, which will unfold inside and outside the parliament in order for this idea to become action in the centre of Athens.” 

Taking into consideration the way democracy was being undermined and the competition it faced from “economic, religious or political systems in the context of the globalisation,” the foundation of such a museum will be a very significant legacy, said Voutsis.
