Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos will visit Corfu on October 15 to attend events marking and honouring the first governor of Greece, Ioannis Kapodistrias, who was born and buried on the island.
The aim of the event is to highlight the political and historical importance of the work carried out by Kapodistrias and allow the island to pay its respects to the first governor of Greece.
Pavlopoulos will attend a service at 11:00 at the Monastery of Platytera. He will then inaugurate the Kapodistrias Museum and later in the afternoon attend an event at the Ionios Academy, where professor Anastasios-Ioannis Metaxas of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens will deliver a speech on “Ioannis Kapodistrias and the other Europe”.
