The Greek economy will take a positive turn soon, South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon announced at a Greek-Korean business forum in Athens on Monday, expressing his certainty that the Greek economy is on a path of recovery.
“I am very familiar with the kind of struggle the Greeks are going through in this sensitive region,” he noted, adding that South Korea had experienced economic hardship as well.
He added that during his country’s difficulties the government had had to ask every family to turn over any gold it had at home in order to help the country complete its debt agreement and stand on its own feet again.
During his first visit to Greece, PM Lee Nak-yon referred to the close relations between the two peoples since the Korean War.
In his address earlier, Greek government Vice President Yiannis Dragasakis stressed South Korea served as a model to Greece, and the Asian country’s lessons could be helpful to Greece.
“In the end of the 90s, you resorted to foreign aid as well, but you succeeded in bringing your economy back and in tremendously raising your production and competition ability. Your country’s experiences, therefore, are of great interest to us,” Dragasakis underlined.
Participants and attendees at the forum included Greek ministers, chamber representatives, and private enterprises. The forum was held by the Korean Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise Greece and the Central Union of Chambers, and focused on the sectors of shipping, tourism, high technology, and food.
