ND calls for new approaches and actions with the Arab world

Greece’s main opposition New Democracy (ND) is planning an initiative to appoint a Greek special delegate, a roving ambassador for the Middle east, when it becomes government, stated ND shadow minister for foreign affairs George Koumoutsakos on Friday, addressing the Euro-Arab Summit in Athens.

He stressed the need for Athens to have “an active and productive contribution to the region’s issues, with a solid foreign policy with open horizons that corresponded to its geopolitical positions, history and a culture that unites and does not divide.”

Koumoutsakos noted that Greece can’t continue to depend on the traditionally good relations with the Arab world, adding that new approaches and additional actions were needed.

Referring to the Palestinian issue, Koumoutsakos stressed it was of top importance, adding that the peace process needed “new oxygen”.

“The aim is a fair solution with strong guarantees for the issue of security. The establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state based on the borders of 1967 and East Jerusalem as its capital,” he added.
