Greece cancels permit of German vessel for research in Aegean

Greece cancelled the permit granted to the German research vessel “Meteor” for scientific researches in the Aegean. The problems with the vessel, which belongs to the University of Hamburg, started last week, when it started its researches in the area of Limnos island. The crew of “Meteor” had been granted a permit by Greek authorities for researches, however on December 29th, Turkish authorities asked the vessel to leave, claiming that it had been sailing in Turkish territorial waters without permit.

After this event, the people in charge of the German vessel asked the Turkish authorities to grant them permit to conduct scientific researches in the Aegean, to which Athens reacted by revoking the permit already granted.
