Any attempt on the part of Turkey to pose obstacles and cause a fait accompli in Cyprus’ maritime area would be irrational, Alternate Defence Minister Dimitris Vitsas, reportedly told the Cyprus News Agency in an interview on Sunday, ANA’s A. Viketos reports from Nicosia.
Asked about the possible emergence of the Turkish drillship “Deepsea Metro II” in the area, the minister argued that Ankara would not “risk a defeat”, noting that Cyprus is protected by international law and from “any Turkish opportunism” where “Turkey would be the only loser”.
