Nicosia reports Ankara's stance against Turkish Cypriot daily “Africa” to UN

The government of the Republic of Cyprus has turned to the United Nations and the permanent members of the Security Council to report the Turkish stance against Turkish Cypriot daily “Africa” and calls on them to act in order to protect the journalists and the freedom of the Press and speech in the Turkish occupied areas of the Republic.

The issue will also be raised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with officials in European institutions responsible for the freedom of the Press.

In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs voiced grave concern over the incidents that took place on Monday morning against “Africa” in the Turkish occupied part of Nicosia, noting that these were instigated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan because the daily newspaper criticised the Turkish invasion of Syria.
