5786 Turks have sought asylum in Greece following the failed coup in 2017

The failed attempt to overthrow Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in July, 2017 has seen 5,786 Turks fleeing to Greece to seek asylum, including eight members of the military who denied taking part in the plot, ANA reports.

The numbers came from the independent news site Diken, which cited Greece’s Ministry of Migration Policy announcing that in October alone there were 706 Turks seeking asylum after Erdogan purged the military and civil service sector and had thousands jailed.
