US Ambassador in Athens Geoffrey Pyatt and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister for Expatriate Greeks Antonis Diamataris met on Tuesday to discuss the strategic importance of Greek-US relations, according to greekreporter.com.
The two men discussed the strong ties between the two nations and issues regarding Greece’s large diaspora in the United States. Later, the US official wrote on Twitter that the two officials had enjoyed a great discussion.
According to Kathimerini newspaper, Pyatt referred to the recent meeting of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias in Washington, the launch of the Greece – US Strategic Dialogue and Washington’s optimism with regard to Greece and its growing role in the Eastern Mediterranean.
For his part, the Greek deputy foreign affairs minister called the meeting “very useful,” noting that the issue of Medicare for Greek-Americans living in Greece was discussed as well.
