Greek PM: SYRIZA proposal for expatriates' vote is unconstitutional

SYRIZA’s proposal for expatriate voting rights is unconstitutional but also deeply insulting, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said after a meeting with Archbishop Elpidophoros and attending an event at the Greek consulate in New York, ANA reports.

In statements after the event on Thursday evening, the prime minister pointed out that the proposal “directly and brutally insults the Greek expatriate community … It is deeply offensive to those who choose to exercise their right to vote outside Greece. It basically tells them that they cannot vote for the prime minister, but only for some deputies, so we are talking about ‘second class’ citizens and a vote that is not equal.”
