The Israeli government issued a statement on the tension in the Eastern Mediterranean between Greece and Turkey taking a clear stance in favor of the Greek positions, protothema.gr reports.
“Israel is closely monitoring the escalation of tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean,” the Israeli government noted in a statement issued by the Israeli embassy in Greece.
The statement continues, “Israel expresses its full support and solidarity with Greece, its maritime zones and the right to determine its EEZ”.
Almost two weeks before the European Council convenes in Berlin to examine Turkey’s aggressively provocative behavior in the Eastern Mediterranean, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who met with Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias on Tuesday, called on Brussels to convene an urgent meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the EU.
Moreover, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias met on Wednesday with the Ambassador of Israel to Greece Yossi Amrani at the Foreign Ministry building in Athens. The talks focused on bilateral issues as well as the Turkish violations, the Foreign Ministry said in a post on Twitter.
