On the occasion of International Women’s Day, President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou οn Monday had an online discussion with students from seven schools throughout Greece about how they view the role of women in their surroundings, at school, in peer groups, and their family, ANA reports.
Sakellaropoulou took a look back at the history of women’s struggle for equality in Greece, starting with the first feminist Avra Theodoropoulou, and her efforts to inspire Greek women to strive for the position they deserve. She also referred to Ruth Bader Ginsberg, the liberal-leaning American judge who protected and defended women’s rights throughout her life. She also pointed out the current special conditions due to the pandemic, where women were called upon to lift a huge burden and were often confronted with abusive behavior and domestic violence.
