Draft bill on maritime zones with Greece passes first reading in Italian parliament

The Italian parliament on Friday approved a bill in the framework of the Greece-Italy agreement for the delimitation of the two countries’ maritime zones at its first reading, according to Italian news agency Agenzia Nova, ANA reports

The agreement garnered 273 votes and no opposing votes, the agency said and it highlighted that “the agreement’s fundamental rule is Article 1, which defines the maritime border between Italy and Greece, not only by reference to the continental shelf’s delimitation line as per the 1977 agreement but also by determining the coordinates according to the Wgs-84 method, which is the one currently used in modern cartography.”
