“The government is giving priority to dealing with the pandemic. We are still battling to persuade our fellow citizens to get vaccinated. I have three meetings a week with the health policy team,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in Parliament on Monday, in response to a question about the handling of the pandemic from the main opposition, ANA reports.
Greece is in a much better position than the European average in deaths per million population. “And it is not just very unfair, it is wrong to isolate what is happening in the country for a few weeks and not look at the bigger picture. We do not have any excess mortality due to covid. Greece is perfectly in line with the European average,” Mitsotakis added.
“According to data from Greece’s hospitals, those who fall seriously ill, are unfortunately intubated, and many of which die, are almost all of them unvaccinated,” the prime minister noted in his speech.
“The reality about which there can be no doubt is that the only answer we have to the coronavirus pandemic is the vaccine. Those who are not vaccinated are 13 to 20 times more likely to get seriously ill than those who are vaccinated,” Mitsotakis said and added: “Vaccines have proven to be extremely safe. More than 6.6 billion doses have been made worldwide. On the contrary, the harmful effects of Covid accompany the patient for many more years.”
