Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is paying his second visit to the White House, after that during the presidency of Donald Trump, in January 2020, protothema.gr reports.
The agenda of the meeting includes bilateral issues Greece – US, but also the war in Ukraine.
The agenda also featured international and regional issues, while Kyriakos Mitsotakis also raised the issue of Turkish provocations.
Energy also was very high on the agenda, as Greece aims to become the hub for gas and clean energy transport from the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean to the Balkans and Southeastern Europe and to actively contribute to Europe’s independence from Russian natural gas and oil and in diversifying energy routes.
The Greek delegation, in addition to the Prime Minister, consists of Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, National Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos, Education Minister Niki Kerameos and Deputy Foreign Ministers Costas Frangogiannis and government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou.
They are mainly concerned, as government sources note, with the recognition of the role that Greece plays as a stable and reliable ally of the United States and the West in general in the region of Southeastern Europe.
