The government “will not exempt anyone” from inspections to ensure that beach bars and related food facilities are following regulations and not blocking the public’s free access at any beach, National Economy and Economics Minister Kostis Hatzidakis said on Wednesday, ANA reports.
Following protests reported in the media about high-priced rentals of beach chairs and umbrellas and the takeover of most of the beach area, Hatzidakis said the inspections will increase during the summer to ensure that businesses are observing their terms of the contract. Public access to the beaches of Greece for free is protected by the Greek constitution, he noted.
