Minister: Greece and Türkiye must seek to establish good neighbourly relations

Greece and Türkiye must seek to establish good neighborly relations based on the “strong grounds of international law”, Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis said in an interview with the Arab television network “Al Ghad TV”, the transcript of which was published by the foreign ministry on Sunday. Gerapetritis granted the interview during his visit to El Alamein in Egypt, as part of a Greek government delegation, ANA reports.
“What Greece says is that International Law should be respected,” Gerapetritis emphasized while stressing that “there is one major dispute between Greece and Türkiye that might be referred to the International Court of Justice in Hague, over the delimitation of the exclusive economic zone and the continental shelf.”
Noting that in the last five months, there has been tranquility and calmness in the Aegean Sea, he expressed the opinion that both countries have the political capital to work together in order to improve their relationship. He pointed out that the two delegations, the Greek and the Turkish delegation, met during the NATO summit in Vilnius a few weeks ago and decided to take some further steps in order to make sure that good relations are maintained and that the two sides will further develop a good positive agenda.
