Kefalogiannis – Al. Vasilikou Meeting | Short-term rentals and employee housing in focus

Important issues of strategic importance for the hotel sector were at the center of the working meeting held by the Minister of Tourism, Ms. Olga Kefalogiannis, with the President of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (HCC), Mr. Alexandros Vasilikou.

During the meeting, the new institutional framework for short-term rentals, which will be implemented from October 1, 2025, was thoroughly examined. Proposals were put on the table that aim to ensure a balance between the hotel sector and short-term rentals, with the aim of ensuring the smooth functioning of the hospitality market and protecting the quality of the tourism product.

Another crucial issue discussed was that of housing for employees in the hotel sector during the tourist season. As underlined, ensuring decent living conditions for seasonal workers is an immediate priority, while in this context, institutional interventions are being examined to enhance the available housing options and facilitate businesses in meeting the housing needs of their staff.

Furthermore, the Minister of Tourism informed the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Ministry’s legislative initiative regarding the operation of the Chamber’s administrative bodies. The regulation is expected to enter into force in the upcoming Chamber of Commerce and Industry elections and is part of the broader plan to strengthen the institutional role of the Chamber as an advisor to the State on hotel and tourism issues.

In her statement, Ms. Olga Kefalogianni emphasized:
“The effort to place our country at the top of global hospitality is ongoing. The continuous and fruitful cooperation with the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, the institutional advisor to the State, is extremely important and has yielded results of measurable value. Tourism is not only the driving force of our economy but also our great strength that highlights the best face of Greece around the world.”

The meeting confirmed the intention to continue the dialogue and cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and the HCC, in order to further strengthen the competitiveness of the Greek hotel product and to address the challenges of the sector with efficiency and strategic targeting.
