Against the backdrop of the great challenges and new opportunities opening up for Greek ports, the Board of Directors of the Association of Greek Ports (ELIME) met on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the premises of the Thessaloniki Port Authority (THPA) S.A.
The meeting was held within the framework of the established annual meeting in the co-capital, on the eve of the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), recognizing the pivotal role of the city in the developments of the country’s port system.
The meeting was chaired by the CEO of the Elefsina Port Authority SA and President of ELIME, Mr. Apostolos Kamarinakis, and was honored with his presence by the Secretary General of Shipping and Ports of the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy (MINIP), Dr. Evangelos Kyriazopoulos.
During the meeting, the following were discussed:
Security issues, with emphasis on the implementation of the Entry-Exit system.
Development infrastructure and investment opportunities.
Opportunities and challenges of the current period for the country’s port system.
The members of the Board of Directors had the opportunity to exchange views with the Secretary General of Shipping and Ports, who listened carefully to their positions and committed to more direct and substantive communication between YNANP-ELIME, in order to constructively strengthen their cooperation for the faster resolution of port issues.
Meeting with the European Commissioner
Also, the members of the Board of Directors met with the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Mr. Apostolos Tzitzikostas.
The focus of the discussion was:
The current situation in Greek ports.
The possibilities of strengthening European funding through new programs.
The strategic interconnection of ports with rail and road networks.
The meeting took place in a particularly positive atmosphere and highlighted the crucial role of Greek ports in sustainable development, regional cohesion and international connectivity.
Participation in the “Greece 2030” Conference
The members of the Board of Directors participated in the Conference “Greece 2030: Sustainable Development in the Age of Crises”.
In the thematic section “Port Infrastructure and Logistics”, with the Minister of Shipping and Port Policy, Mr. Vasilis Kikilias as the keynote speaker, the President of ELIME, Mr. Apostolos Kamarinakis, and the CEO of ThPA S.A. Dr. Ioannis Tsaras took part.
