An anti-erosion project in a national forest north of Athens was presented on Friday by Hellenic Petroleum (HELPE), who assumed the project after a state appeal for private help following the devastating fires of August 2021, ANA reports.
HELPE has also assumed similar works in Schinos, Corinthia prefecture. The projects at Gerania Mountains cover 1721 hectares (17,214 stremmas), part of which lie within the boundaries of the protected area Natura 2000, the firm said. Corinthia’s project follows the same principles as those of Varibobi and is in its final stage. Both projects cost 3 million euros.
