Greece emerges as the second most popular holiday destination German travelers in the summer of 2018, with particular preference for Halkidiki, Mykonos, Santorini and Crete.
This was announced by leading German tour operator TUI based on bookings made through its Airtours luxury travel brand,
Greece not only ranked first among Mediterranean destinations, but also occupied second place among most popular travel destinations globally right after the US.
The most popular holiday destination for the summer are New York, California, Hawaii, and Florida.
Italy ranked third, focusing on return trips and gourmet tours.
Families with young children and many couples tend to prefer German destinations for the second or third holidays of the year.
Turkey is making a great comeback, with Halicarnassus (Bodrum) recording an increase of 60% in demand.
German luxury travelers are also attracted by long haul destinations, since the top-10 popular destination list include the US, UAE, Indonesia and Canada.
