Four out of five Britons are willing to swap holidays in 3-star hotels in popular European destinations for 5-star hotels in cheaper destinations such as Egypt, Tunisia, and Turkey.
This trend is highlighted by an easyJet survey of 2,000 Britons.
However, despite the ongoing difficult economic situation, holidays remain a key priority for Britons, with a third of those surveyed stating that they plan to travel more this year than last year.
According to the survey findings, Britons will take an average of three holidays this year and visit at least two countries. They will spend around £3,000 on their main travel getaway.
Britons are looking for opportunities to book their holidays, with many booking up to 18 months in advance of their intended travel date.
All-inclusive reigns supreme
More than half also said they were looking for all-inclusive holiday packages. In fact, four in five respondents said they would consider a month-long holiday to an all-inclusive resort during the winter if it proved cheaper than staying at home.
“The willingness of Britons to swap their holidays from a three-star hotel in traditional European hotspots to five-star resorts in Turkey, Morocco, and Cyprus is evidence that Britons are looking for luxury for less,” said Gary Wilson, head of holidays at easyJet.
Another key trend is the rise in the desire for family holidays, with 97% of parents saying they want to take their children on holiday even after they have left home. More Britons than in previous years said they intend to use artificial intelligence to plan their holidays more cheaply.
Britons are also looking to combine their holidays with sporting or cultural events such as marathons and concerts.
More than 80% of Generation Z respondents said they would fly short distances to see their favorite DJ or singer, with a similar proportion of the same group wanting to travel to places where their favorite shows have been filmed – “Jetflix and chilling”, as easyJet puts it.
