Americans defy terrorism and visit Europe this summer

Despite the climate of phobia formed by the numerous incidents of terrorism in Europe this year, Americans tourists opt European destinations for their summer vacations.

This is the conclusion of a study published recently by AAA, the largest motorist organization in North America with 56 million members, to whom it also provides travel services.

The survey reveals three European cities, Rome, London and Paris to be among the top-5 international destinations for Americans from 1 June to 15 August, with Canc?n in Mexico and Vancouver in Canada filling the remaining spots.

Rome ascended to the top position from the 4th last year and London climbed to second place, from third last year. Two more destinations of the Old World, Dublin and Amsterdam, also ranked within the top-10.

Europe remains very popular for American travelers, despite the recent terrorist attacks,” said Vice President for travel and AAA’s publications, Bill Sutherland,.

He attributed the trend to the strong dollar, reduced prices and the constant feeling that the terrorist incidents in Europe are low-intensity threats hovering anywhere in the Western world.

Threats that cannot cancel travelling, an achievement of modern man and his quality of life.

Recently, a data scientist at TechJuice.com concluded that the probability of an American killed in any kind of terrorist attack globally is 1 in 9.3 million.

The risk of dying from food poisoning is three times bigger (1 in 3 million), the threat of dying from hot tap water double (1 in 5 million).

It is 14 times more likely for an American to die in a bathtub in relation to a terrorist incident, 11 times to slip in the bathtub, 16 times to be struck by lightning, 450 times to fall, 118 times to drown, 500 times to crash with his car.

More than 3,000 people die each day in traffic accidents around the world and 100 of those in the US.

The odds for an American to be killed by a terrorist are equal to him being crushed to death by his TV or furniture.

Ultimately, there is always a risk in our daily lives. The risk to die in a terrorist attack is statistically minuscule, and there is no reason to deprive ourselves of fun, while staying at home where are lives practically face more threats.

Indeed, our greater victory against terrorists is just this: not to give in to fear, which is what they aim for.
