Greece is among the world’s six countries with most five star hotels, according to a survey carried out by trivago.
The country provides approximately 420 luxurious units in that category, representing 2% of its total accommodation capacity.
China is ranking first with about 2,940 five-star hotels, representing approximately 2% of its total units. Turkey follows with approximately 800 five-star hotels, which account for 6% of its capacity.

By analyzing the proportion of five-star hotels by country, one can draw an imaginary line that divides the map into two parts: the northern, consisting mainly of countries whose hotels with five stars represent approximately 1% of the total, and the south, where – with some exceptions, such as Brazil and Australia- the proportion of luxury hotels ranges between 2-5% per country.
Especially in Egypt and the United Arab Emirates this proprtion rises to more than 10%.
Sharm el-Sheikh and Dubai are among the 10 cities in the world with the largest number of hotels five asteron.
The weight of the Middle East countries and some African destinations such as Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa, in each of which about 5% of available hotels have five stars is also noteworthy.
In America, high percentages of five star hotels are traced in Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Dimokratia. As far as Asia is concerned, China obviously has the significant potential in this area. Besides being the country with the largest number of five star hotels, five of the ten cities in the world with most five-star hotels are Chinese.
