According to the Frontier Statistical Survey conducted by the Bank of Greece, in the period January-March of 2016, arrivals of non-residents from abroad decreased by 6.2%, compared with the corresponding period of the year 2015.
More specifically, arrivals from Europe, which accounts for the majority of arrivals of non-residents to Greece (82.9%), recorded a decrease of 4.9% in January-March 2016 compared with the corresponding period of 2015, while arrivals from EU Member States recorded a decrease of 9.3%. As regards European countries a significant decrease, in absolute values, is observed in arrivals from Bulgaria (-23.6%) , Romania (-36.8%) and Italy (-25.8%) while a significant increase, in absolute values, is recorded in arrivals from Albania (31.7%), Belgium (492.2%), Russia (134.9%) and Poland (69.2%). As far as the rest of the continents is concerned a decrease of arrivals is observed from Asia, in absolute values, with a significant decrease of arrivals from Turkey (-46.6%), while an increase of arrivals is observed from the other continents (Table 1).
The largest contribution regarding the total of arrivals from the European countries, has Bulgaria (20.3%) , FYROM (11.7%), Albania (9.1%), Germany (7.2%) and United Kingdom (6.6%) (Table 1).
As regards the means of transport and the point of entry, during the aforementioned time period, it is observed that most of the arrivals are by road and by air. The main points of entry which account for the biggest percentage of traffic, by road, are Evzoni (9.1%) and Promahonas (7.8%). As far as the arrivals by air are concerned, the airport of Athens holds the first place with (38.4%) followed by the airport of Thessaloniki (7.0%) (Table 3).
