Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura met with representatives of the local administration of northern Aegean and the Chamber of Dodecanese to promote the island of Kos in 2017.
The Minister noted that the promotion of Kos is a strategic priority and informed the officials on the actions implemented by the ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organisation (EOT) in cooperation with representatives of the public and private sector in order to support tourism on the island.
She stressed that Kos has already restored its position as an attractive destination and tourist arrivals have increased and added that targeted actions will continue in 2017 in cooperation with the regional authorities, local administration as well as the private sector.
The island is included for a second year in the central marketing planning of the ministry and EOT in the European markets and Russia and, furthermore, planning for the 2017 first includes the promotion of thematic products, such as conference tourism, sea tourism, sports coaching tourism and gastronomy.
It received enhanced publicity by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) through the visitgreece.gr website, online travel platforms and satellite tv networks in 2016 and was also promoted as part of a campaign to boost last minute bookings to Greece and took part in international tourism exhibitions.
Finally, German tour operators TUI, Thomas Cook and Neckermann Reisen have extended their programs to Kos until October while TUI Austria ahas programmed two weekly flights to the island during 2017. Moreover, UK’s Jet2 Holidays will add seat capacity and increase travel packages to the island for next season.
