Greek PM to UNWTO's Secretary General Taleb Rifai: We are 'breaking records' in tourist arrivals

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with the secretary general of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), Taleb Rifai, at Maximos Mansion today and noted that Greece is ‘breaking records’ for tourist arrivals.

The secretary general of the World Tourism Organisation, Taleb Rifai, is currently visiting Athens from February 28 to March 3 at an invitation of Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura.

Rifai will be the keynote speaker at a conference organised by the Tourism Ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organisation on sustainable tourist development.

With each year that passes, Greece is breaking new records for the arrival of tourists from abroad, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras told Taleb Rifai, in a brief conversation with Rifai on camera.

Tsipras added that 27.5 million tourists arrived in Greece in 2016 and were projected to exceed 30 million in the current year.

The meeting between Tsipras and Rifai began at 18:00, with Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura attending.
