In an interview to Proto Programma/ERT radio station, Greek Minister of Tourism Elena Kountoura, stated that the figures for the Greek tourism industry in 2017 are spectacular.
She noted that there is a huge increase in overnight stays and hotel occupancy, ranging from 80% to 95% in most tourist destinations, as well as record arrivals in some of them. The Minister also referred to important economic benefits from the tourism industry, particularly from non-Schengen countries.
“In the period 2016-2017 we succeeded in extending seasonality to our tourism industry”, she added and continued , “starting in December 2016 and even before the summer season of 2017.”
“This achievement was made possible by promoting Greece on a every day basis through thematic products such as health-wellness tourism, gastronomic tourism, conference tourism” she stressed.
