By decision of the Northern Aegean Region Governor Christiana Kalogirou, the project “Activities for the tourist promotion of the islands of the North Aegean Region 2018-2020” is included in the Operational Program of the Region of North Aegean.
The total budget of the integrated project is 1 million euros, with the Region of North Aegean eligible.
This project finances tourism promotion communication actions aiming at highlighting the natural and cultural resources of the islands of the North Aegean Region through a clear and already approved business plan.
Particular emphasis is given to exploiting the potential of digital technology as well as communicating through social networks.
One part of the project includes actions to promote the whole of the islands of the North Aegean Region and another the integrated actions for the individual promotion of each of the islands in cooperation with the respective Municipalities.
The North Aegean Regional Governor said: “With funding from European resources, we aim to create a modern image in order to strengthen the tourist development of our islands. By exploiting digital technology and social networking, we aim to maximize the effectiveness of actions, that is to say with the lowest cost to achieve the greatest result. The whole of the islands of the North Aegean Region provide rich experiences to the visitor and each island separately is a particularly attractive tourist destination that the actions of the integrated program bring to light. “
SETE aims to link Tourism with Agri-food and culture
Furthermore, ways to further develop tourism in the North Aegean Region while restoring the reputation of the islands affected by the refugee crisis were the focus of the first in a series of Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) workshops that took place on the island of Lesvos.
SETE President Yiannis Retsos acknowledged that the islands should retain a special tax status and further discussed ways to link the agri-food sector with culture, implementing a strategy for sustainable development, strengthening the role of tourism in the community – all of which can contribute greatly to both the traveler experience and local growth, according to capital.gr.
