Ports across Athens were full on Sunday as locals left the city to head for their summer holiday on the islands, ahead of Greece’s much anticipated Orthodox holiday “The Dormition of the Theotokou” which takes place on August 15.
Twenty-seven ferries were scheduled to leave during the weekend from Piraeus, thirteen from Rafina and six from Lavrio for the islands of the Argo-Saronic Gulf, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, and Crete.
The port authorities announced that on Saturday, 33,077 passengers left from Piraeus, 8,578 passengers from Rafina and 2,980 from Lavrio.
