One of the most beautiful and famous beaches on the island of Corfu, the picturesque Canal d’Amour or ‘Channel of Love’ is known throughout Europe and worldwide as the beach for true lovers that want to stay together for all time, ANA reports.
Situated in the north of the island near Sidari, about 32 kilometers for the main town and on the westernmost tip of the island’s northern shore, it is remarkable for its sculpted white sandstone rocks that rise up on either side, forming a natural canal.
A unique spot favoured by tourists, celebrities and quite a few film crews, according to the locals, the Canal d’Amour is also widely known for its detoxifying and healing properties, attributed to rich deposits of clay that form in the sea as the rocks are weathered by the wind and salt water to create small lagoons and wonderful caves.
Many visitors prefer to simply toss a coin into its waters and make a wish for true love or choose to sit on these rocks with handfuls of clay and spread it on their body and hair for a natural mud bath while the area is well known since ancient times, with traces of a Neolithic settlement and earlier Mesolithic settlements found in excavations in Sidari.
