Parga is a magical city in the heart of Epirus overlooking the Ionian Sea, Paxos and Antipaxos, with turquoise waters and natural surroundings, thus making it a wonderful natural landscape, int.ert.gr reports.
It is known for its amphitheatrical street-plan, its colorful houses and cobblestone streets perched on top of the hill and its spectacular view of the Ionian Sea and the island of Panagia.
There are many beaches in Parga and the surrounding area, each one offering a cherished experience for the travelers. Its beautiful bays, sandy and rocky beaches, and lush vegetation, complete Parga’s idyllic landscape.
Parga was known in antiquity, as the ancient town of Toryne of Ptolemy and Plutarch. The first time the city was mentioned by its present name and as one of Epirus’ most significant cities, was in 1387 by Ioannis Katakouzinos. Following the conquests of the Normans and the Venetians, Parga was under Turkish rule until its liberation and integration to the Greek state in 1913.
