Beachgoers on some of Italy’s busiest stretches of sand could see some interesting new measures implemented to limit visitor numbers this summer, according to euronews.com.
Some ideas to allow visitors to maintain social distancing guidelines on the beaches include electronic bracelets to enforce caps on numbers and booking apps to provide allocated time slots. One-way flow systems and umbrellas spaced a minimum of 5 meters apart could also form a part of measures to keep beachgoers safe, as resorts consider reopening during the peak season.
At the same time, tourists could lose out on Spanish beaches after officials created a social distancing system using roped-off squares that would mean up to 50 percent fewer people can enjoy a place in the sun, internewscast.com reports.
The system has been designed to ensure tourists’ safety as the country prepares for the summer season after the COVID-19 pandemic, but the downside is that there is no room for everyone.
Furthermore, telegraph.co.uk reveals that Lloret de Mar, a classic Costa Brava bucket and spade resort, is moving fast to get ahead of the curve with a plan to segregate bathers in order to keep apart different risk groups, such as families with children and the elderly, during a summer unlike any other witnessed by the resort’s trademark 1,000-year-old San Juan castle.
A third segregated beach zone will be reserved for lone adults and couples, with over 30 security personnel to be hired to ensure the rules are obeyed.
In the meanwhile, bathers took a dip in the sea or strolled Nice’s Promenade des Anglais on the French Riviera on Saturday, many wearing protective masks, as the beach reopened to the public for the first time since a nationwide coronavirus lockdown in mid-March.
People living in low-infection zones of France, so-called green zones, were allowed to hit the beach after the government began easing restrictions on Monday. Local officials reopened selected beaches in Northern France and Mediterranean coasts on Saturday.
But, as New York Times points out there are new rules: individual activities such as swimming, fishing or surfing are allowed, provided social-distancing is respected, but sunbathing or staying on a beach for hours is not permitted.
