Young Germans, the so-called Generation Z (Gen Z), which includes people aged 16 to 27, are primarily looking for authentic experiences when they travel.
This conclusion comes from a survey of the online platform HolidayCheck.
According to the research:
Half of these young people reported in the survey that they rely on advice from family and friends when planning their trip.
44% of respondents use online platforms or social media.
Travel Influencers influence only 20% of young consumers.
Reliability is important to Gen Z
More than half of respondents doubt the trustworthiness of social media. The most reliable sources for travel planning are:
The social environment (96%),
Online travel platforms and travel agencies.
According to the survey, three social media channels are particularly important to the new generation: Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
Gen Z also wants to produce their social media content when on vacation. About half of young vacationers share photos and videos of their trips on various social media channels. The majority plan ahead where good content could be created. Thus, 70% of respondents admit that they look for suitable places for this purpose before starting their trip.
Vacations are only good if you create content for social media
Almost shocking: A third of Generation Z said in the survey that the trip/vacation is only successful if it allows them to share content from the experience with their own social media followers.
As mentioned at the beginning, young German holidaymakers prefer authentic experiences (76% of respondents). However, only half of the respondents attach importance to environmental protection. For the other half, environmental protection does not play an important role.
The Holidaycheck survey was online, carried out in October, and involved around 1,000 people aged between 16 and 27.
