The B2B travel platform RateHawk has been recording a series of increases from international markets for Greece in recent years, with demand-oriented towards luxury accommodation and personalized services.
As the company’s head of Business Development for the Balkans, Mr. Fillip Kasum, points out in his statements to Tornos News, this year’s figures up to February show a 65% increase in demand for Greece compared to the corresponding period last year.
This increase follows a very good year last year, where, according to RateHawk data, bookings in our country showed a strong increase of around 50% compared to 2023.
RateHawk has connections with Greek DMCs that sell services (hotels, airline tickets, rail services, and rent a car) through it to other travel agencies.
Greece is in the top 10 destinations worldwide
Greece, Mr. Kasum emphasized, is among the top 4 destinations in the Balkans and in the top 10 worldwide, on the RateHawk platform, especially in the summer months. Besides, food, accommodation, quality, and prices are very well balanced in Greece compared to its competitors, he emphasized.
At the same time, the company records an increase in the average daily price spent by its partners in Greece, with the average reaching 205 euros, up 4% from last year.
Also interesting is the fact that more and more travelers are making reservations in luxury hotels, as demonstrated by the high average daily price. As the RateHawk executive reported, last year, 50% of demand was directed to five-star hotels, 29% to four-star hotels, and the rest to two- and three-star accommodations.
The Greek destinations that attract the lion’s share of reservations at RateHawk are Rhodes, Mykonos, and Crete (Rethymno, Heraklion, Chania).
Regarding the travel trends that will prevail this year, Greece is in the right position to use them to its advantage. As Mr. Kasum pointed out, the following trends are observed…
- Personalized services | Travelers, especially millennials and Gen Z, are looking for a more personalized approach to shaping the travel program, which is a great opportunity for Greek DMCs, not only for tours but also for hotels.
- Sustainability | Many Greek hotels have coordinated their offer with this new trend, doing their best in this direction. Many travelers are certainly choosing hotels based on this now and Greece is at the forefront in this direction.
- Leisure | The trend of combining professional obligations with leisure activities in travel remains. “For example, in Athens, one can travel to participate in business meetings and at the same time visit Glyfada, and stay a weekend there,” Mr. Kasum pointed out.
- Comfort | Visitors to Greece are looking for comfort, as they seek out five-star and four-star hotels, and that makes a difference. “This is a huge opportunity for Greece, given the large number of luxury hotels, resorts, and villas.”
