Conde Nast Traveller: Peloponnese among the world's best holiday destinations for 2026

Greece is once again at the center of global tourism attention, this time with the Peloponnese taking the spotlight.

The region is emerging as one of the world’s and Europe’s top travel destinations for 2026, as it has been included in the internationally renowned Best Places to Go list by the leading travel magazine Cond? Nast Traveller.

The Best Places to Go list by CNT is aimed at both travelers and dreamers alike, serving as a compass for globetrotters from around the world.

The American magazine, which each year presents the planet’s most important travel destinations, describes the Peloponnese as a place where mythology, cinematic magic, and natural beauty meet sustainable luxury.

According to CNT, the Peloponnese is a hotspot for film productions, has Homeric heritage, and is ideal for hiking trails.

This year, the Peloponnese’s inclusion is linked to a major cinematic moment: the release of Christopher Nolan’s new film The Odyssey, expected in July 2026. The Oscar-winning director chose the coasts of Messinia for the filming of his new epic, “where the Homeric epics draw their roots from ancient history,” as Cond? Nast Traveller notes.

The magazine highlights Costa Navarino, which focuses on sustainability and hosts four luxury resorts in the area, along with several new restaurants led by Michelin-starred chefs.

Visitors are invited to follow in Odysseus’s footsteps — walking to Nestor’s Cave, where Matt Damon’s Odysseus defeats the Cyclops, swimming in Poseidon’s realm at Voidokilia Beach, photographing flamingos at the Gialova Lagoon, and exploring Methoni Castle and historic Pylos, where Odysseus’s son once sought wisdom from King Nestor, hero of the Trojan War.

CNT also highlights the deep cultural heritage of the region. At Nestor’s Palace, near Pylos, travelers can explore Mycenaean civilization. Special mention is made of the 2015 discovery of a Mycenaean warrior’s tomb filled with treasures — an archaeological finding that reshaped our understanding of how Mycenaean and Minoan cultures together shaped Western civilization.

This tomb is set to return from Los Angeles to Greece in late 2026, to be exhibited at the renovated Archaeological Museum of Chora, Messinia.

However, the Peloponnese is not promoted only as a historical site but also as a modern destination for wellness and adventure. The completion of the Peloponnese Trails, a 1,075-mile network connecting mountain villages, archaeological sites, and olive groves, is expected to make the region a leading hiking and ecotourism destination.

In this context, the Euphoria Retreat in Mystras will host the Wellbeing Festival in June 2026, an event dedicated to the philosophy of ancient Greek wellness.

Once again, Greece takes center stage in global tourism, this time led by the Peloponnese.

The region stands out as one of the top travel destinations worldwide and in Europe for 2026, having been included in the Best Places to Go list by Cond? Nast Traveller.

Each year, the American magazine presents the world’s most remarkable destinations, describing the Peloponnese as a place where myth, cinematic allure, and natural beauty meet sustainable luxury.

According to CNT, the Peloponnese is a film-shooting hotspot, steeped in Homeric history, and ideal for hiking adventures.

Its selection this year coincides with the upcoming release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey in July 2026. The Oscar-winning director chose Messinia’s coastlines for his epic film — a setting “where the Homeric epics draw their roots from ancient history,” as the magazine writes.

Cond? Nast Traveller also refers to Costa Navarino, a hub of sustainable tourism with four luxury resorts and Michelin-starred restaurants.

Visitors are invited to trace Odysseus’s journey, walking to Nestor’s Cave, swimming in Voidokilia Beach’s “world of Poseidon,” photographing flamingos in Gialova Lagoon, and exploring Methoni Castle and Pylos, where Telemachus sought wisdom from King Nestor.

The magazine emphasizes the cultural depth of the region, mentioning Nestor’s Palace, the 2015 discovery of the Mycenaean warrior’s tomb, and its forthcoming return to Greece for exhibition in 2026.

Finally, the Peloponnese is presented as a destination for wellbeing and nature lovers, with the Peloponnese Trails network and the Euphoria Retreat Wellbeing Festival showcasing the region’s commitment to sustainability, culture, and holistic living.
